This bar within a bar, SALT Tequila and Mezcal Bar is a unique gem offering over 100 different bottles of tequila and mezcal. Co-owners Barbara Canales’s and Doug Allison’s shared love of Mexico and the water inspired them to complement the pristine Havana by adding a charming, elegant bar inside the club dedicated to celebrating the history and art behind quality tequilas from around the world. With a freshly painted green wall covered with rich succulents and a hand-crafted wooden bar, Canales and Allison called on local artists to create a relaxing atmosphere where Old World meets beach chic.
Much like whiskey and scotch, the tequila process falls in various phases represented in three main categories: platas (silvers fresh out of the distillery), reposados (aged at least two months), and añejos (aged over one year). All these types offer a different smell and flavor, and notably the most refined type – the ultra añejo. Since September, SALT has attracted new clientele, all with a thirst for trying the various flavors and learning the story behind the packaging and design of each bottle.
The SALT staff is knowledgeable of the product and will inspire a true respect and appreciation for the art of tequila, making the experience both fun and fascinating.
The attention to detail and authenticity intensifies the experience. SALT offers over 50 types of salt from around the world to customize each cocktail, which are delivered in hand-made Mexican blown glass.
“SALT is devoted to providing the best quality of product, the freshest ingredients, and natural juices,” says Canales. “All of our drinks are shaken, not blended. Nothing is frozen.” Try their spicy yet refreshing “Jalapeno Watermelon Margarita,” the pleasantly modified classic “Cucumber Lime Margarita,” and the sweet and natural “Prickly Pear Margarita.”
Inhale, smell, drink, and exhale to taste the beautiful flavor.
